Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Millimeter Astronomy at IRAM

deadline: 15 February 2016

IRAM is opening one researcher position within its ARC node. The successful candidate is expected to invest 50% of his/her time on astronomical research and to spend 50% of his/her time on support activities. The candidate is expected to provide assistance and advice to users in the preparation of ALMA proposals and observations, provide technical expertise in the analysis and interpretation of data to visiting astronomers, develop high-level data reduction procedures and, if possible, help to identify and develop synergies between the ALMA and NOEMA projects. Depending on experience and skills, the candidate may also be involved in activities to support the integration and science verification of NOEMA subsystems, and in particular of the new antennas.

The current position offers the opportunity for astronomers to work with world-class research facilities and pursue their career in a very dynamic and competitive field of research. IRAM's research program covers a wide range of subjects from ISM chemistry, planetary science, young stellar objects, late stage stellar evolution, to extragalactic research at low and high redshift.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD in astronomy with a strong interest in (sub)millimeter interferometry. Experience with ALMA, in developing software applications and working in an international research environment are an asset. Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, bibliography and statement of research interests, and arrange for two letters of reference. Applications received before February 15, 2016 will be given full consideration, but will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. The position is available immediately with flexible starting dates for a 2-year appointment with possibility of extension. Applications and reference letters are to be submitted by email to the IRAM personnel department (jobs-scsu@iram.fr).
